The Neville Green/Eileen Boyd Hutchinson Volunteer Scholarship of $500.00 was presented to Matthew Ryan Miramontes on May 9, 2017 on Senior Scholarship Night at Cornell High School.
The quality that Neville Green found most impressive about this student is that despite his busy academic schedule and extra-curricular activities at Cornell and his employment at a local restaurant, this young man found the time to volunteer for worthy and meaningful causes. Through Cornell's Peer to Peer Empowerment Program he has worked as a Peer Empowerment Tutor helping new students become oriented and adjust to high school life. His involvement with this program on team-based projects has helped to raise the community's awareness regarding problems affecting our youth and ways to avoid them. He also spent time with a charity kitchen on the Northside making homemade meals for the less fortunate residents and delivering food to the homeless in and around Pittsburgh during winter months.
